Working to stem the flood of exotic plant species entering the
United States
The Mission

Our mission is to keep native plant communities - and human communities -
healthy and intact by addressing the threats posed by exotic, invasive plant
species.  We believe that
stopping the import and sale of new exotic species to
the United States is the most critical step in achieving this goal.

ESCP works to support and pursue
precedent-setting litigation, legislation,
education and research
to achieve the following goals:
  • Stem the tide of reproductive exotic plants introduced into the United States
  • Encourage responsible action among governments, businesses and
    landowners
  • Raise public awareness of costs to businesses, government,
landowners, and our native ecosystems, where exotic, invasive species
    occur
  • Remedy the impacts of invasive, exotic plants on native ecosystems and
    the economy

Exotic Species Control Project
Our tools are education, lobbying, legal action and research:
  • Education - for agriculture/nursery/landscaping industries, government
    agencies and the public
  • Legislation - to improve local and national import regulations and noxious
    weed rules
  • Litigation - to enforce existing legislation
  • Research- for better information about real costs and viable alternatives
